Transportation - A Green Grant Opportunity

Article by: Betsy Earls - April 10, 2009

Give us your Viewpoint.

This past February, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), in the hopes of stimulating the US economy.  The ARRA establishes a competitive grant program for states to jump-start their adoption of greener transportation systems.  Increasing the use of electric vehicles and recharging stations is a key part of the strategy, and Oregon is well-positioned to receive one of these grants.

The grant will be administered by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Clean Cities Program.  The Clean Cities Program will distribute $300 million to help grant recipients acquire hybrid vehicles, battery-powered, all-electric vehicles, and commercially available plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The Clean Cities Program is competitive – no more than 30 grants will be awarded through this program.  It is a four year program, with deployment of vehicles and infrastructure taking place during the first two years and data collection and evaluation continuing throughout the entire grant period.

If your company is interested in the project, please complete the application form and return it to Mark Brady at the Oregon Economic & Community Development Department no later than April 15, 2009.  Mr. Brady may be reached at mark.brady@state.or.us, or 503.229.5638.

Your completion of the application is in no way legally binding.  The application is intended only to indicate potential interest in the program and a willingness to investigate further participation.
