"I very much appreciate the fact that AOI has been diligent in protecting the interests of taxpayers in the Legislature. Whether it has been taking the lead in creating the Magistrate Division of the Oregon Tax Court thereby eliminating the biased Department of Revenue administrative hearings, or stopping legislation that would decrease the interest on tax refunds due taxpayers, AOI has worked closely with the business community on tax issues before the Legislature that benefits all Oregonians."

Public Policy: Fiscal Policy

Guiding Principles

  • Promote the health of Oregon's economy and business community by keeping taxes low and simple and promoting private sector savings and investment.
  • Promote cooperative and consistent regulations by deregulating and privatizing. Whenever possible, regulations should be enforced by the State.
  • Promote business credit for entrepreneurs.
  • Promote an efficient and accountable government by prioritizing programs and budgets within existing resources.

Board Directive

The AOI Board's directive is to promote legislation that allows Oregonians to retain a larger portion of what they earn, thereby encouraging hard work and investment. The Board directs AOI to support public policies and budgets that prioritize government expenditures and stabilize taxes and fees.

Issues

The issues addressed by the Taxation and Revenue Council include corporate and personal income tax, capital gains tax, internet taxation, property tax, sales tax, state and local government spending and school finance.

How We Work

The AOI Fiscal Policy Council is open to all dues paying members of AOI. The Council addresses issues that usually arise directly from the membership. Recommended policy positions are sent to the Board for input and direction. Issues that arise quickly and that require immediate action may be sent directly to the AOI Executive Committee for direction. The Council also serves as a technical advisor to the Board on tax and revenue issues.
