How Oregon AOI Retail Council Members are Responding to the Haitian Earthquakes

Lowe’s Companies announced on January 13th that it would donate $1 million to support the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which is helping earthquake victims.  In addition, all of Lowe’s stores will serve as donation centers for the American Red Cross, making it convenient for people who want to contribute.  Lowe’s chairman and CEO Robert Niblock, said “Among those millions are the families and friends of many of our customers and employees.  Lowe’s customers have always been extremely generous in responding to disaster relief efforts, so we are asking them to once again partner with us by contributing one dollar at a time to help our international neighbors begin the recovery process.”

The Home Depot has made a donation to the American Red Cross, and is matching donations from their store associates for Haiti relief efforts.

Target Corporation volunteers are working in partnership with students from The Fair School, a Minneapolis school serving grades 4-8, and ImpactLives, a nonprofit, to prepare more than one million meals to send to Haitian earthquake victims.  Target also made a $500,000 donation to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund.  “At Target, we are committed to helping families and communities in need,” said Laysha Ward, president of Community Relations at Target.  “We extend our thoughts of comfort and hope to all those affected by this disaster.”

Walmart is also helping with meals, having sent pre-packaged food kits valued at $100,000 to Haiti at the request of the Red Cross.  The company also gave $500,000 to the Red Cross International Relief Fund.
